European Defence Fund (EDF) is dedicating a total budget of 1.1 billion € to the EDF Research and Development in Defence Work programme for 2024.
The 4th annual Work programme is organised around 6 thematic calls and 2 calls dedicated to SMEs, consisting of 32 topics in total.
For energy-efficiency and energy-resilience interested stakeholders, there is a notable return of the energy topic under Energy resilience and environmental transition category; “Energy-independent and energy-efficient systems for military camps (Development)”.
There are also calls focused to disruptive technologies and topics for MSP and research organisations, such as green recycling, water circle management, AI and cybersecurity, special materials, electronic components, synthetic fuel production. MSP also have outstanding opportunity to suggest other topics that bring innovative technologies for sustainable and reliable defence sector.
International partners interested in collaboration with Slovenian companies and Research Technology Organisations (RTOs) are kindly invited to get in contact with the Slovenian Energy and Environment Partnership in Defence (SiEnE), supported by TECES and the Slovenian Ministry of Defence (SiMoD).

This action category aims to create and develop energy-efficient solutions and green technologies in the defence sector in the context of the current planetary crisis (climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, all driven by natural resource depletion).
The aim of this category of action is to create and develop energy efficient solutions and green technologies in the defence sector. In the context of the current planetary crisis (climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, all driven by natural resources depletion), the overall contribution of this category will support Europe in achieving ambitious environmental objectives.
