EDF work programme 2022 adopted, calls in early June

Reading time: 2 min

The DG DEFIS adopted the EDF work programme 2022 with €1 billion to boost the EU’s defence capabilities and new tools for defence innovation.

The 2022 EDF work programme addresses a total of 33 topics structured along eight calls for proposals to be opened in early June. Energy-related topics are not as extensively included in this year’s call for proposals as in the 2021 work programme.

Non-thematic calls for proposals focused on SMEs targeting research and development actions to foster innovation as a key objective of the EDF are also foreseen.

SiEnE partnership remains active as the contact point for foreign partners to address the Slovenian knowledge partners, companies, industry, and other support organisations.

About the 2022 EDF work programme

European Defence Fund provides €1 billion to boost the EU’s defence capabilities and new tools for defence innovation.

The second EDF work programme 2022 will be organised around 8 calls addressing 16 categories consisting of 33 topics.

After a short assessment, we must emphasise, that energy-related topics are not so extensively included in this year’s call for proposals as in 2021.

What is new?

Additionally, the 2022 work programme introduces a series of new tools to promote defence innovation, all under one new umbrella called the EU Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS). As already announced in the Commission’s Defence Package, EUDIS will be working in close partnership with EDA’s Innovation Hub.

Topics and categories of action

The 2022 EDF work programme addresses in total 33 topics structured along eight calls for proposals – to be opened early June – to kick-start a number of large emblematic projects.

It targets relevant defence technologies and capabilities in line with the EU capability priorities commonly agreed by the Member States and further elaborated in the Strategic Compass.
