Reading time: 2 min

On 5 November 2020, the SiEnE partnership was presented at the event “Greening Defence – how to make the Armed Forces more sustainable”.

The event, organised by the British Embassy in Ljubljana and supported by the Slovenian Ministry of Defence (Si MoD), highlighted the possibilities in making the defence sector greener and the Armed Forces more sustainable, particularly in relation to new technologies.

The event was attended by a large number of experts and representatives from the defence ministries of the United Kingdom and Slovenia. The event was opened by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, and Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia, Tiffany Sadler.

The representatives of SiEnE, Col. Robert Šipec from Si MoD and Matej Gajzer from TECES, presented the activities and projects through which Slovenia is moving actively towards joint initiatives in the creation of more environmentally friendly solutions in the defence sector.

The event, organised by the British Embassy in Ljubljana and supported by the Slovenian Ministry of Defence (Si MoD), highlighted the possibilities in making the defence sector greener and the Armed Forces more sustainable, particularly in relation to new technologies.

The aim was to highlight the importance of sustained efforts on the part of the Armed Forces and other sectors in establishing bilateral ties and exploring potential opportunities for further cooperation. The event falls within the scope of the British Ministry of Defence’s initiative to commit defence ministries to step up their efforts to reduce the military’s contribution to climate change.

The event, moved online this time due to Covid-19, was attended by a large number of experts and representatives from the defence ministries of the United Kingdom and Slovenia. The event was opened by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, and Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia, Tiffany Sadler.

The representatives from Slovenia presented Slovenian activities and projects through which they are actively moving towards joint initiatives for the creation of more environmentally friendly solutions.

The event was also attended by both representatives of SiEnE – Col. Robert Šipec from the Si MoD and Matej Gajzer from TECES.

RESHUB project

Col. Robert Šipec presented the RESHUB project (Defence RESilience Hub Network in Europe). The project was initiated by the Slovenian Ministry of Defence within the framework of the Consultation Forum for Sustainable Energy in the Defence and Security Sector (CF SEDSS), which is organised by the European Defence Agency (EDA) in cooperation with the Directorate-General for Energy.

The aim of the RESHUB project is to set up a network of self-sufficient energy hubs in the EU and Slovenia. Over the past few months, the project has gained considerable international recognition – due in part to the EU’s increasing strategic orientation towards hydrogen technologies.

As the representative of SiEnE, Matej Gajzer presented the newly established partnership, which has the main objective of strengthening cooperation between civil and defence stakeholders in the development of green technologies and environmentally friendly, energy-efficient solutions.
