TAB was established in 1965 as a subsidiary of Rudnik Mežica Holding (Lead Mine Mežica Holding) in a region where different lead activities are more than 350 years old. For the first 15 years TAB was a licence partner of Tudor, Sweden. Nowdays, TAB is producing a wide range of lead acid flooded, VRLA AGM and VRLA Gel batteries in three modern factories with approximately 1.500 employees on three different locations.

The Department of Energy Engineering addresses a wide range of challenges in the energy and mobility sector as well as challenges of sustainable development. The challenges of sustainable energy management are inherently linked to the sector-coupling, which is addressed through a system level multi-domain and multi-scale approach.

The team predominantly investigates the performance of wood-derived materials, focusing on the inherent durability and mechanical properties of various wood species under different environmental influences. This research emphasizes understanding how climate change impacts wood properties and forest composition, crucial for developing adaptive forest management strategies.
The durability assessments employ the state-of-the-art Mayer-Veltrup approach, combining laboratory and field tests to gauge wood's performance in real-world conditions. Additionally, the study extends to exploring wood's increasing role in construction, particularly in outdoor applications, where it faces a broad spectrum of degradation factors.

Research areas of the Laboratory for Telecommunications include distributed cyber-physical systems, digitization, and security. Technology areas include the Internet of things, communication protocols, 5G and 6G networks, cyber security, blockchain, and data. The vertical sectors supported by ICT technology areas are smart cities, villages and communities, energy, industry, critical infrastructure and public safety. Its scientific and professional work is focused on areas such as the green transition, smart grids, and compensation devices. Our main research activities are modelling, conceptual design and optimization of different processes in thermal engineering and thermal management. Due to the intensive technological development in recent years, we have focused also on different activities in the field of micro heat transfer and fractal structures. In addition to conventional methods of heat transfer, we have recently been focusing on the field of thermal control circuits and elements, analogue to electronic circuits.
We model processes and results with verified measurements on laboratory models and on real systems. In addition to the research and development in the domain of conventional refrigeration processes and systems, we carried out numerous research projects in the area of district heating and cooling, heat pumps, household appliances, and energy management in industry.

ZAG is the leading institute in the field of construction in Slovenia. With its experts, state-of-the-art equipment, and multidisciplinary approach, it is recognized both domestically and internationally. ZAG’s core activities include research and development, technical testing of construction products, and certification. ZAG employs 255 people and had an annual turnover exceeding €17 million in 2024. It is one of Slovenia's top institutes in terms of research and development funding obtained through EU mechanisms.
