Slovenian national building and civil engineering institute (ZAG)

ZAG is the leading institute in the field of construction in Slovenia. With its experts, state-of-the-art equipment, and multidisciplinary approach, it is recognized both domestically and internationally. ZAG’s core activities include research and development, technical testing of construction products, and certification. ZAG employs 255 people and had an annual turnover exceeding €17 million in 2024. It is one of Slovenia's top institutes in terms of research and development funding obtained through EU mechanisms.
ZAG’s research and testing division comprises six departments: Materials, Building Physics, Structures, Fire Safety and Sustainable Built Environment, and the Department for Geotechnics and Infrastructure. In addition, ZAG operates a dedicated Metrology Department.
In the field of the Construction Products Regulation, ZAG maintains three independent services: the Certification Service, the Technical Assessments and Approvals Service, and the Environmental Declarations Service. ZAG also leads the Strategic Research and Innovation Partnership (SRIP) for Smart Buildings and Home with the Wood Chain, and is actively involved in other SRIP areas such as mobility, circular economy, and materials.
