ALENOS project

The research and development project "Pilot demonstration of alternative energy supply for military shooting range / Mobile power units for shooting ranges" ̶ ALENOS, is a public procurement of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia (Si MoD).
The aim of the project, which started in 2021, is to pilot the installation of energy self-sufficiency of exposed energy-intensive capacities for the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) with the introduction of alternative energy sources (solar and wind energy), energy storage and long-term self-sufficiency.
The R&D project leads to the development of HYBRID power supply using all available power sources, giving priority to green and sustainable ones without compromising on reliability.
Internal storage in LiPO4 battery block, full energy flow management and remote control and maintenance make this device suitable for defence and civil usage, as it becomes a valuable asset during disaster management. Digital twin enables cooperative solutions and remote operation. Data centre functionality is developed in parallel.
Besides the prototype‘s energy self-sufficiency, it will reduce the carbon footprint and enable the development of smart camps by verifying and testing the applicability of alternative, hybrid and connectable technologies. It can operate as grid-connected or full off-grid and it is ready for the most advanced future connections, both on AC, DC and data levels.
The results will contribute to the decision to introduce technologies and complement new technologies in the capabilities of the SAF and the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (ACPDR) or in support of the Alliance's joint peacekeeping operations.
ALENOS is the first project carried out as part of the R&D feasibility study on Smart Energy Efficient Camps (SmartEEC ).
