Slovenian approach towards greening defence at the "EDID 2023"
Partnership SiEnE’s active role in co-creating international greening defence guidelines - presentation at the "EDID 2023"
- Details
The European Defence Agency (EDA), under the auspices of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, is organizing its second annual event entitled "European Defence Innovation Days (EDID) 2023". The two-day event will take place in Brussels between 31 May and 1 June 2023 and will focus on the challenges and opportunities in connecting technological innovation and capability development in the defence.
At the same time, an exhibition will be held, where the partnership SiEnE will present its national and international activities. With the slogan " GREENING DEFENCE – fostering green transition by accelerating innovative dual-use solutions", we want to showcase activities within the partnership in cooperation with SI MoD, national and international projects in which Slovenian partners participate on the topic of green transition, energy and environmental challenges, as well as the opportunities we have identified in an international defence environment.
To achieve the European Green Deal goals rapidly, which address the decrease in fossil fuels reliance and ensure climate neutrality, the European Commission is increasingly encouraging the development of innovative and diverse energy-efficient solutions.
The trend of development and use of energy-efficient and green technologies is also present in defence, and mostly support and synergy for innovations for both, in civil and defence use. In TECES we also recognized the potential for dual-use solutions, therefore, together with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia (SI MoD), in 2020 we established the Slovenian Energy and Environment Partnership in Defence (SiEnE).
European Defence Innovation Days ̶ EDID
Similar to last year, the European Defence Agency (EDA), this time under the auspices of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, is organizing the second “European Defence Innovation Days (EDID)“. The two-day event, which will take place in Brussels between 31 May and 1 June 2023, will focus on the challenges and opportunities in connecting technological innovation and capability development in the defence.
The EDID 2023 will be held as a conference, where European experts will present innovative solutions for defence and the opportunities and challenges of integrating the civil and defence sectors.
Parallel to the conference, an exhibition of various products and projects in which representatives from civilian and defence member states, will participate. During the exhibition, the event will feature short professional presentations (Tech-Talk) by international experts on innovations and dual-use solutions.
The role of the partnership SiEnE at the EDID 2023
The partnership SiEnE is becoming increasingly recognizable at European international defence, as partnership members, multidisciplinary experts from industry and research organizations, contribute to concrete innovative ideas and dual-use solutions with their knowledge and experiences within the framework of various programs and projects.
Therefore also at this year’s event SiEnE’s partnership representatives will be active at the exhibition with the presentation of activities and projects under the auspices of the partnership SiEnE, TECES and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia (SI MoD). We will present the Slovenian approach towards greening defence, active and planned international dual-use projects, and Slovenia’s activities in international defence initiatives and programs.
At the exhibition area no. 50 at Brussels Square, under the slogan “GREENING DEFENCE – fostering green transition by accelerating innovative dual-use solutions«, the founders of the partnership SiEnE will present national and international projects on green transition and solving energy and environmental challenges, in which Slovenian partners participate. At the same time, we will present the opportunities we have recognised in the international defence environment.
Matej Gajzer, as a representative of TECES and the partnership SiEnE, will in his Tech-Talk speech present the Slovenian approach towards greening defence, by encouraging the development of innovative dual-use solutions and creating synergy between civil and defence stakeholders, whose successful cooperation can provide concrete solutions to the European defence sector.
