Department of Energy Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana
Since: 1919
The Department of Energy Engineering addresses a wide range of challenges in the energy and mobility sector as well as challenges of sustainable development. The challenges of sustainable energy management are inherently linked to the sector-coupling, which is addressed through a system level multi-domain and multi-scale approach.
In addition to the systems level approach, we also focus on key breakthrough technologies at the component and the integration level, where we cover the entire spectrum from basic science to the transfer of technologies into the final products of national and international partners.
Specifically, the department’s research is focused on: renewable energy sources, hydrogen technologies and fuel cells, electromobility and batteries, thermal engineering, renewable fuels and advanced low-emission combustion processes, internal combustion engines, hydro and wind energy as well as turbo machines, cavitation, removal of pollutants and viruses as well as water purification, noise, measurements, modelling.
